Silver Dioxide and Zinc Titanium Won't Drag You Down
As a person whose background is high technology enterprise applications
software, I am extremely grateful that clothing designers are starting to incorporate technology
into our athletic apparel. As a self-proclaimed “technology” junkie, I don’t know how I ever lived
without my Bluetooth headset, coupled with my Treo handheld and iPod. I don’t leave home without them.
So you’re not sure if you need technical clothing? Once you try it, you will never go back!! Your
life just won’t be the same. As we demand smaller cell phones with increased battery life that give us
directions while playing music, so we should also demand higher quality clothing that suits our on-the-go
lifestyle.
The microfiber fabrics used in today’s technical fabrics offer performance features that cotton does not.
Many of the newer style microfibers incorporate silver for its antimicrobial properties, and features for
sun protection.
And the list doesn’t stop there! Some of the less obvious advantages are that it washes and dries much
quicker than traditional fabrics. The microfibers are wrinkle resistant, making them perfect for traveling.
In addition to being incredibly lightweight – shirts utilizing advanced microfibers typically weigh only
2 – 4 ounces. They save space while traveling, and their easy wash and wear properties means that you don’t
have to pack as much. Technical clothing dries quickly, making it easy to wash out a shirt for the next day.
I wear microfibers exclusively for home, traveling and leisure. Another nice thing is that the microfibers
don’t attract pet hair or lint. This may not seem like a big deal, but if you live an active lifestyle
(and who doesn’t these days) that includes kids and dogs, you will soon wonder how you dealt with traditional
fabrics.
An added bonus is that technical apparel is incredibly comfortable. It is lightweight, and fits next to your
body without binding. It allows for complete freedom of movement, and isn’t bulky. In cold weather,
microfiber fabrics under a lightweight outer layer will keep you warm and comfortable.
Most people don’t realize how uncomfortable their other clothes are until they switch to the new technical
apparel. Most runners will tell you that they really felt the difference the first time they ran in a
technical top.
